Adult ADHD Therapy & Executive Functioning Support in Tempe

You know you're capable. So why does everyday life still feel so hard?

You're intelligent, thoughtful, and motivated. You care about doing a good job and following through on the things that matter most. Yet somehow, everyday responsibilities seem to require far more effort than they do for others. Maybe you've been told you're anxious, disorganized, "too much," or that you simply need to try harder. But no matter how hard you push yourself, it doesn’t seem to get easier.

On the outside, you may appear organized, successful, and capable. Behind the scenes though, you're working overtime just to keep up. You spend so much energy managing the details, remembering what needs to be done, and trying not to let anything slip through the cracks that you're left feeling exhausted. Perhaps you've spent years wondering why life feels harder than it seems to for others, quietly questioning yourself while becoming an expert at hiding the struggle.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone—and you don't have to keep doing it this way.

Many adults discover that the challenges they've blamed on stress, perfectionism, or a lack of discipline are actually related to ADHD and executive functioning.

My Approach

You may find yourself:

  • Constantly juggling competing priorities

  • Feeling overwhelmed by even simple tasks

  • Starting projects but struggling to finish them

  • Losing track of time or underestimating how long things will take

  • Forgetting appointments, emails, or important details

  • Relying on last-minute pressure to get things done

  • Feeling mentally exhausted from trying to stay organized

  • Wondering why systems that work for other people never seem to work for you

Therapy can help you better understand how your brain works, reduce self-criticism, and develop practical strategies that make everyday life feel more manageable.

ADHD in Adults Often Looks Different Than People Expect

Many adults don't recognize ADHD because they don't fit the stereotype they grew up hearing about.

Instead of obvious hyperactivity, ADHD may look like:

  • Chronic procrastination

  • Perfectionism that makes it difficult to get started

  • Difficulty shifting between tasks

  • Feeling overwhelmed by decisions

  • Constant mental clutter

  • Emotional sensitivity

  • Hyperfocusing on one task while everything else gets neglected

  • Working twice as hard just to stay on top of everyday responsibilities

Many adults—particularly those who learned to compensate by working harder, staying busy, or striving to get everything "just right"—aren't diagnosed until later in life. By then, years of masking executive functioning challenges may have contributed to chronic stress, anxiety, burnout, and self-doubt.

You don't need a formal ADHD diagnosis to benefit from this work. Whether you're newly diagnosed, exploring whether ADHD may be part of the picture, or simply looking for practical support with executive functioning, therapy can help.

What Is Executive Functioning?

Executive functioning is the brain's management system.

These are the mental skills that help us:

  • Plan ahead

  • Prioritize tasks

  • Stay organized

  • Manage time

  • Begin difficult tasks

  • Maintain focus

  • Regulate emotions

  • Follow through

  • Adapt when plans change

When executive functioning isn't working efficiently, even simple responsibilities can become overwhelming—not because you're lazy or unmotivated, but because your brain is processing and organizing information differently.

While executive functioning challenges are a hallmark of ADHD, they can also be influenced by anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, and life transitions. Whatever the cause, these skills can be strengthened with the right support and practical strategies.

Executive functioning therapy is different from traditional talk therapy.

These sessions are collaborative, solution-focused and focused on helping you create meaningful change in your everyday life.

Rather than relying on generic productivity advice, we'll identify what's getting in your way and develop systems that work with your brain—not against it.

Together we may work on:

  • Building realistic routines

  • Managing time more effectively

  • Reducing procrastination

  • Breaking large projects into manageable steps

  • Creating organizational systems that are sustainable

  • Strengthening emotional regulation

  • Improving workplace performance

  • Increasing confidence through practical success

Specialized Training & Real-World Experience

My approach combines specialized training in adult and women-centered ADHD treatment with more than 18 years of clinical experience supporting adults through life's challenges.

I’ve spent over 13 years working in an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), helping employees, leaders, and organizations navigate workplace stress, communication challenges, and performance concerns. That experience gave me a unique understanding of how executive functioning difficulties can affect careers, relationships, and everyday responsibilities—not just mental health.

Whether you're balancing a demanding career, family responsibilities, graduate school, or multiple competing roles, we'll focus on practical strategies that fit your life and your goals.

A Collaborative Approach

Already working with a therapist? Executive functioning therapy can be an excellent complement to ongoing psychotherapy.

Many clients continue seeing their primary therapist for trauma, anxiety, EMDR, relationship concerns, or other deeper therapeutic work while meeting with me specifically to strengthen executive functioning skills and build practical strategies.

With your written permission, I'm happy to collaborate with your treatment team so our work is coordinated, complementary, and aligned with your goals.
